Why does the genie look so different from how we usually visualize genies?

I noticed during the movie that at first, the Genie was trying to kill the thief of Baghdad. His attitude was horrible and overall, he had a bad first impression. After being captured in the lamp, he acted like the Genie we are all used to: lively and charismatic.

The Genie in this movie looks very different from the Genie in Aladdin. The Genie in The Thief of Baghdad has human-like characteristics like legs, feet, and has tan skin instead of blue. However, he also looks similar to the Genie in Aladdin, sharing the same hairstyle and facial hair.

So the main question is: Why does this difference occur? Is it just an observation that has no significance?

Personally, I think that the attitude change and the difference in appearance can be attributed to the time period this movie was made and the difference in the style of the movie (since this one was not made particularly for children). Still, there could be many other explanations for the contrast in these genies, but it was an observation that caught my attention.
