This Tuesday, I chose to attend the event called The Quran & its Place in the Muslim Community. I chose to attend this event in hopes of understanding another religion outside of Christianity (the faith I have followed all my life). I believe it is essential to understand the fundamentals of another religion because nowadays, there are many misconceptions, which create unnecessary violence and hostility. This experience allowed me to see the similarities we Christians and Muslims share. It is so nice to see the common ground because the media tends to portray different religions as opposites when, in reality, we all believe in a higher power with good intent.
The speakers discussed how the language of Arabic truly represents the teachings of the Quran, for there are many translations to other languages that can distort the true message of the Quran. Muslims value their loyalty to Allah, in a Christian’s case, God. The Quran is the word of Allah, and Muslims use the Quran to lead their lives and guide them through their obstacles in life. I could see that the Quran and the Bible have many similar principles besides the different prophecies. After attending this event, I gained an interest in learning more about the Quran and other religions too. I plan on taking a religious course in the future to get a concrete education on these beautiful religions.
